In the summer of 2021, filmmaker Sophie Fiennes filmed the London-based theatre company Cheek By Jowl to create the first in-depth documentation of their unique process and philosophy. The result is a richly detailed and thrilling celebration of theatre, as viewers watch 8 young thespians rehearse key scenes with directors Declan and Nick over two weeks in Twyford Abbey, a derelict mansion on the outskirts of London. Strapping the camera to her body, Sophie provides an immersive experience that brings the methods and magic of Shakespeare’s masterpiece to the screen.

After receiving its UK premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF), ACTING received its international premiere at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA). Critics have praised the film, calling it an “…illuminating exploration of the acting process,” in Screen Daily.
